Passivation for Stainless Steel
Passivation treatment for stainless steel removes free iron particles from surfaces and enhances the natural chromium oxide layer, improving corrosion resistance. The chemical process dissolves surface contaminants while promoting the formation of a uniform, protective oxide film.
We offer nitric acid passivation, citric acid passivation (as an environmentally friendly alternative), and specialized passivation for medical and food-grade applications. Passivation is essential for stainless steel components exposed to corrosive environments, particularly where chloride-induced corrosion is a concern. The process improves stain resistance, maintains surface appearance, and extends service life. We perform salt spray testing to verify corrosion resistance after passivation.
